Steers shows her films in galleries and museums, collaborating with sculptors and fabricators to design free-standing objects that mirror key elements in the film—a house, a tower of antique beds, and a laboratory instrument.  Joining the invented three-dimensional pieces with film loops, she creates an unexpected context for experiencing her films and extends the metaphorical power of a film. Solo exhibitions have included the Denver Art Museum and the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona.
