Over the last decade, Steers has worked collaboratively to create free-standing installation objects that mirror key elements from each film. These objects accompany her films in museum and gallery exhibitions. Joining the invented three-dimensional pieces with embedded film loops, she creates an unexpected context for experiencing her films and extends their metaphorical power.
“Stacey Steers: Edge of Alchemy”
Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver, Colorado
Focusing on the Edge of Alchemy project, this solo exhibition featured three installation objects, each designed to invoke an antique scientific instrument. Unique distortion lenses interfaced with embedded screens presenting the film. The preparatory collages were whimsically displayed in a large wall grouping. The full-scale film was screened in the adjacent black box. Curated by Zoe Larkins. Objects fabricated by Michael Schliske, Steamboat Woodworks.
